LEPC

The LEPC, or District VI Local Emergency Planning Committee, is one of eleven in the state. District VI includes the same six counties served by the Regional Planning Council (RPC). Established by Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (most commonly referred to as SARA Title III), the LEPC plans and trains for responding to hazardous materials incidents and helps to educate the public about hazardous materials (hazmat) issues. Each LEPC is a voting body consisting of hazmat professionals and interested citizens appointed by the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC). In the same way that the Florida Department of Community Affairs Division of Emergency Management (DEM) provides personnel as staff support for the SERC, the RPCs provide a staff contact to support their corresponding LEPCs. District VI member counties include Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. The District VI LEPC meets quarterly.
