How shall we grow? How shall we live? How shall we prosper?
These were key questions for the planning council’s Ccomprehensive Eeconomic Ddevelopment Sstrategy (CEDS).
One of the conclusions of the CEDS 2007 Task Force and Report was that: The integration of human and natural systems must drive our region’s future economic development. This integration will help the region build upon its strengths, take better advantage of its opportunities, overcome its weaknesses and face its threats.
The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy outlines those industries that exist in the region, those economic sectors that are expanding or shrinking, and a list of vital projects needed to sustain and grow our global competitiveness.
Vital projects get preferential consideration by the USEDA for economic development funding. For example the CEDS listed the space shuttle transition to a future launch platform as a vital project and in October 2008 the USEDA announced a grant of $500,000 to the Brevard County Technological Research and Development Authority for workforce retraining and retention. This was matched by a $250,000 grant from the state of Florida and $250,000 from local sources.
The planning council embraces the region’s 21st century vision for a globally competitive region, and stands ready to work with all the region’s stakeholders to better advance the economy.
