11/19/2009-Dangerous By Design
Dangerous by design uses the latest accident statistics to calculate the most dangerous cities to walk in the United States. The report ranks 52 largest metropolitan areas as the most dangerous for walking and also provides a Pedestrian Danger Index for all metropolitan areas in the U.S.
So, why is walking ten times more dangerous than driving a car? Click here to find out as well as read the ranking of the "Most Dangerous Metro Areas for Pedestrians."
NOT walking is equally as hazardous! The CDC reports that two-thirds of Americans are now overweight or obese. The good news is that communities are working to change road policies and street designs to make the environment safe and secure. Click here to learn more.
Pedestrians also include students walking and biking to school. It is important for students to have safe access and facilities that foster non motorized methods of traveling to school. This also promotes a healthy lifestyle in students.
